Sandy has always worked in the arts, as an actor, a festival administrator, a theatre producer and promoter, and now as an activist filmmaker. Dancing With the Octopus (DWtO) began 5 years ago as a single documentary project while Sandy worked as producer and publicist at May Street Productions (2002- 09, and as VP partner for 3 years). Today DWtO has blossomed into an 8 tentacled multi-media project. The most recent tentacle, "Dancing Backwards: Let's Get Canada's Political Women into History" is currently in pilot stage with Grade 5, 8 and 10 students in Victoria.
Her television producing credits include the documentary Singing Home the Bones (Bravo!, APTN), To Forgive...Divine (VisionTV), Mr. Right is Stuck in Traffic (W Network), and produced the dramatic short Pants on Fire for filmmaker Maureen Bradley .
Sandy coaches writers, politicians and others who fear speaking in front of crowds with her ‘Off the Page,’ performance workshop. She serves on the board of directors of VIFPA, is a member of Equal Voice (as one of their initial 100 Champions), the Canadian Women Voters Congress, DOC Canada and Women in Film and served on the boards of PUENTE Theatre and OPEN CINEMA. Sandy is a guest lecturer for gender studies classes at Vancouver Island University (Women's Studies) and Simon Fraser University's GSWS http://www.sfu.ca/gsws/
